Dr. Samuel Winter D.O., H.M.D.
“I am a board certified Family Physician and I am also licensed by the Nevada State Board of Homeopathic Medicine Examiners to practice alternative medicine. I regularly recommend Coach John as a health and wellness coach.
I know and respect Coach John’s abilities. I worked with Coach John in a clinic for about a year and a half from August of 2006 to December of 2007. During that time we collaborated on several patients and I was peripherally involved with scores more of his patients. Many of them improved dramatically as a direct result of his input. Most of the patients that did not improve also failed to respond to conventional and alternative interventions.
I frequently give dietary recommendations to my patients. The recommendations I give are almost exclusively those I learned not from the randomized controlled studies I read about in my medical journals, nor from Registered Dietitians, but those that I learned from Coach John. Why? For one, because my patients tend to succeed in implementing Coach John’s program as a permanent eating habit. Secondly, but more profoundly, Coach John’s dietary programs often result in the improvement or amelioration of sinus congestion, hypertension, elevated blood sugars, flatulence and bloating, insomnia associated with anxiety, and the list goes on. I have been able to reduce or discontinue prescription medications for many of my patients because of the dietary techniques I learned from Coach John.
I also regularly treat my patients for musculoskeletal problems. While my interventions are effective, they could be reduced or avoided all together with the use of a muscle building and balancing program. Coach John’s deep fund of knowledge of the musculoskeletal system has paid long term dividends for his patients. He has demonstrated insight into the most efficient way to build strength given different gender, ages, and body types. More importantly, he properly balances the strength of opposing muscle groups that promotes the integrity of body mechanics and often prevents injuries.
Not only is Coach John competent in the areas of nutrition and physical conditioning, he is also very proficient in the use of safe, over-the-counter nutritional supplements. These non-prescription supplements often speed recovery of minor medical conditions or augment medical prescriptions. A great thing about using supplements is that there is very little danger of harm associated with the use of most of these products as indicated. Moreover, Coach John knows which brands actually put in the amount of active ingredients that the bottle indicates. He also knows how to achieve synergistic effects from varying over-the-counter doses of vitamins, minerals, herbs, and homeopathic remedies.
Coach John integrates his expertise in each of the fields of diet, exercise, and nutritional supplementation into safe, effective, and inexpensive programs. He does so in a way that is easy for the patient to understand and follow. The Pièce de résistance is that Coach John’s bedside manner is pleasant and professional. Therefore, I enthusiastically recommend Coach John as a health and wellness coach.”
Dr. Frank Shallenberger M.D., H.M.D., A.B.A.A.M.
“I am the medical director of the Nevada Center of Alternative & Anti-Aging Medicine and one of only 16 physicians in Nevada that is licensed both in conventional medicine as well as alternative and homeopathic medicine. I am also board certified in Anti-Aging medicine by the American Board of Anti-Aging Medicine. I have personally worked with Coach John in the past. He was consulting with patients in my private medical practice for fitness and nutritional evaluations and treatments. We share many of the same perspectives regarding proper nutrition and exercise. He is very knowledgeable, personable, and responsible. Coach John is a great resource for clients who are interested in optimizing their nutritional and fitness status.”
Michael Stokes, Pharm.D
“As a pharmacist, I encounter a wide variety of patients suffering from all kinds of ailments. I don’t believe in rushing a patient to medication unless there is no other alternative. Many patients have complicated over-lapping disease states, and it takes time to teach them about what is really happening to their bodies and assist them in overcoming these infirmities. Unfortunately physicians and pharmacists do not have the time or the setting to spend one-on-one quality time with each patient. We only get a glimpse at their lifestyles before giving them a few pointers and helping them on their way.
This is where Coach John’s Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC) are called into play. He ensures these patients aren’t left to fend for themselves in a hopeless sea of medications and human frailties. He meets with patients in their element, analyzing things such as day-to-day habits, diet, and lack of knowledge. He finds the level each patient is at then builds from there. His approach is not a blanket program, but a tailored plan for each individual’s situation and condition.
After talking with Coach John about his most basic philosophies, I find they are based on sound evidence and scientific fact. I feel like he is an extension of myself, what I would love to do for patients if I only had the time, not to mention half of the energy and commitment instilled in Coach John. I thank Coach John for taking this responsibility unto himself, being there alongside our patients in their struggle to overcome their obstacles. His talents are numerous, his knowledge is elaborate, and his presence is captivating. He fulfills a need that is vastly overlooked in today’s healthcare scene: follow-up and results. Finally, someone who does not just give advice and point the patient in a given direction. This is why I refer my patients to Coach John.”
Gino Di Matteo, Health Club Manager
“As a health club manager who is responsible for an entire staff of personal trainers, Coach John is hands down a cut above the rest. I asked Coach John to come train in both of my clubs because of his skills. I have never encountered anyone like him in this industry. Something a lot people don’t know is that most personal trainers only know what they read about in their certification books. Which isn’t very much…And they don’t know anything about nutrition or working with people who have health problems. A bunch of certifications hanging on the wall don’t mean crap. Most of the time they aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on. Experience, knowledge and people skills are what you need when you hire a trainer. And Coach John is the cream of the crop. If you want the best, then you want Coach John.
Coach John’s knowledge about the human body is impressive. He’s even had his theories clinically tested and validated. I’ve personally met with doctors who rave about him and how good he is and what his knowledge did for their patients. I had Coach John teaching my other personal trainers what to do and how to do it right because they didn’t know what to do. I had him building exercise programs for my other trainers because they didn’t know what he knows. I had him doing nutritional plans for clients of my other trainers because they weren’t getting results. And I had him leveraging his contacts with local doctors to get them to refer their patients to my clubs to increase my memberships.
Coach John would get results with his clients in just 1-2 months and it would take one of my other trainers 3-5 months to achieve similar results. Quick results are better for business. I had a line out the door for him but his book was full. The physical transformations Coach John would perform were absolutely incredible. I don’t understand the science like he does, I just know it works and it works well.
If all of my trainers could have even half of Coach John’s knowledge and abilities (and people skills) I would have the most profitable staff of personal trainers in the country. And everybody would come to us because of the great results they would be getting.
But you had better be really serious about the reality of doing some hard work and don’t be a crybaby because I’ve seen him fire lazy clients who don’t do their part. He don’t waste anybody’s time. He’s very efficient and very good at his job. And what he knows about exercise and nutrition is an incredible one-two knockout combination unlike any I have ever seen. Who’s better than Coach John? Nobody. If you’re really serious about changing your life, do yourself a favor and hire Coach John. He’s the best I ever seen.”

“I met Coach John two and a half years ago. I was telling a friend that I had just been turned over to my third or fourth personal trainer at the gym and I was getting frustrated. I was also having medical issues that my doctor was unable to help me with. The doctor had tried everything he knew, but he was unable to raise my magnesium level. My friend called Coach John and we arranged a meeting.
Our first meeting was over two hours long in which Coach John explained thoroughly what I would encounter physically and emotionally. I was extremely impressed with how knowledgeable and easy to work with Coach John is. He is always there for me. I can call him about anything and he gets right back to me. I feel I’m in good hands with Coach John and my nutrition needs.
With his guidance I went from over 170lbs. to 111lbs. (my goal was 135lbs.) and I lost over 60 inches. Two and a half years later, I am maintaining 118lbs. I have sooo much more energy!!! My mental state is awesome! My health is unbelievable.
We also managed to astonish my doctor by successfully raising my magnesium level! I have recommended Coach John to everyone I know who is struggling with a health issue or weight issue. Thank you Coach John for all that you did and continue to do to ensure my health and well-being.”

“Coach John has been coaching me for the last two years. I initially contacted Coach John to help me get ready for an upcoming surgery. When we started I was overweight and had no muscle tone. His advice has helped me to have more energy in the day and sleep better in the night. He also accommodated my schedule and always promptly returned my phone calls. Coach John has been a great lifestyle coach for me. It’s so nice having a familiar voice on the other end of the phone to listen to me, challenge me, coach me, and give me advice. I’ve also gotten back to the weight and shape I was 20 years ago before menopause!
Coach John’s knowledge of nutrition has helped me tremendously. One very important point is that recent x-rays of both my knees show that there is no cartilage left, just bone on bone. And the joints in my fingers are also worn out and I can’t make a fist anymore. Thanks to Coach John’s nutritional guidance both of my knees and all of my fingers are pain-free! My orthopedic surgeon is completely amazed because he said I should be in a lot of pain. But I very rarely need to take any painkillers and I can chase my grandchildren up and down the stairs all day. I don’t take any prescriptions, just supplements and good nutrition.
I might have some challenges of getting older, but I don’t have to feel old. I have a quality of life to look forward to for many years. With what I have learned from Coach John, I can be a young grandma who enjoys life –I will stay involved and active for a long, long time.”

“I met Coach John almost 8 years ago as a personal trainer in the gym. I was referred to him by my chiropractor. At the time, I was not taking good care of myself and needed a good kick in the butt. I could not have met a better person to do that than Coach John. I learned a new way to work out with weights. The workouts were HARD, yet ENJOYABLE. The results were undeniable.
In 12 weeks, I went from sizes 10-12 to a size 6. I gained more self esteem then ever before. I felt powerful and in control, whereas before Coach John, I had no motivation or dedication to myself. Coach John moved after those 12 weeks and we lost contact for a while. He was gone, but not forgotten. I did, however, let the pounds creep back on.
Five years later I was engaged and wanted to lose 10-15 pounds for my wedding. I was going to classes at the gym, working with other personal trainers, and dieting, and nothing was changing. As fate would have it, I found Coach John’s phone number! I gave him a call and he graciously took me on as a client again. This time he taught me more about cellular metabolism than I ever thought I wanted to know and it is fascinating stuff. Again, the results were undeniable. I started around 45% body fat and got to 19% in 10 weeks!
I look up to Coach John not as a personal trainer, but as a life coach. We have a wonderful rapport. He is extremely professional yet fun-loving. He is genuine, smart, and won’t take “can’t” for an answer. Coach John is my Guru!”

“My husband and I were introduced to Coach John by a mutual friend in 2007. About a year later another friend disclosed to me that she had sought assistance in improving her health, diet, and overall well being from Coach John. She recommended that I contact him for help with my own physical concerns.
My health conditions included insomnia, extreme fatigue, muscle weakness, poor diet, compromised immune system, and digestive issues. All of these were severely affecting my overall mental, physical, emotional, and psychological feelings. I decided to take my friend’s advice and contacted Coach John for help.
Coach John met with me and we thoroughly reviewed my past and present health conditions/concerns. He recommended dietary changes, supplements that would be useful, and explained to me how my lifestyle and dietary habits were adversely affecting my health. Under his guidance I have made many changes to my diet and lifestyle, and have seen a definite positive improvement in my overall health conditions.
Coach John has always made himself available at any time to answer questions or offer solutions if I found something was not working as planned. He has been supportive and sincerely interested in my improvement.
I would highly recommend Coach John’s services to anyone interested in saving their health. His positive upbeat attitude and sincerity to the cause is outstanding.”

I was referred to Coach John by a friend of mine who happened to be a client of Coach John’s girlfriend. My friend thought that Coach John’s services would be beneficial to me after my lengthy hospital stay due to a craniotomy for a pituitary tumor followed by a medical complication of an intracranial bleed. I began working with Coach John about the fall of 2006.
I was hospitalized in early April 2006 for a craniotomy to remove a pituitary tumor. The initial surgery went well but about 7 days after the craniotomy I developed a complication of a cranial bleed. The bleed caused my brain to swell. I had emergency surgery to remove a portion of my skull and part of the right frontal lobe of my brain. In addition, shunts were placed in my brain to further relieve the pressure from the swelling. I was then placed in a drug-induced coma for 2 weeks and moved to the ICU. After being in ICU I was then moved to the rehab facility at the hospital. The pituitary tumor caused Cushing’s Disease. I was also diagnosed with Surgery Induced Diabetes. I was weak, uncoordinated, overweight, and very rundown.
At the time I began working with Coach John I was a physical mess. My ACTH level was in the triple digits. All I knew was that a normal ACTH is in the single digits. I did not understand what this meant to me physically. My doctors were very good at responding to my questions -but I was not asking the right questions in the right ways in order to gain a full understanding of my conditions. Often their responses to my questions were not expressed in terms I could understand.
During our sessions, Coach John would ask me questions regarding some of my blood tests that I could not answer. Coach John apparently had an understanding of my blood tests and how they translated to my physical condition. I asked Coach John to advocate for me with my endocrinologist. I thought that he may be able to understand what the doctor was telling me and then translate the information in such a way that I could truly understand it and thus have a better understanding of what I was feeling. I gave my doctor permission to speak to him. My doctor was open to the idea and they had a few conversations. Coach John would then explain their conversations to me in ways that made sense to me.
Physically I was a wreck (in my opinion). Feeling rundown all the time prevented me from doing anymore than the basic things. It was difficult to run more than one errand and if that errand required me to go to a store it required all the energy I could muster to complete the errand. I would drive to a location and pull into a parking space and just sit there for a few minutes while I waited for my energy level to get to a point where I could get out of the car. As I have come to learn, this rundown feeling was tied to the high level of ACTH in my system and since the level has come down to the normal range in the last year, I find that I do not have that rundown feeling anymore.
Unfortunately, I was very rundown when I was working with Coach John. He prescribed exercises for me and a combination of vitamins. I did the exercises when I could get past the rundown feeling and I took the vitamins. I was not as compliant as I should have been but I realize now that my physical condition was working against me. Coach John was very patient with me and sympathetic to my situation. I was most responsive to the talks we had about nutrition and being physically fit.
At this point in time, my financial situation prevents me from working with Coach John. If I could, I would continue to work with him as I believe that I am now physically prepared for his services. However, even though I was unable to implement many of his suggestions, I always felt better psychologically after our sessions.
I chose to work with Coach John because I was intent on returning to the level of physical fitness I had before the surgery. What sold me on Coach John was his demeanor, his appreciation of my situation (not thinking that it was in my head), and the knowledge he displayed. Once we started working together I found Coach John easy-going, comfortable to be around, helpful, and professional. He was not pretentious, if he didn’t have an answer for something he would tell me that he needed to research the answer. On many occasions he would call me with the answer rather than wait for the next session and he would take as much time as needed to make sure that I understood what he was telling me.
I would recommend Coach John to anyone. I think his knowledge, demeanor, the time he is willing to give his clients, and his individualized client plans make him an ideal person to work with.

“Coach John is a GREAT coach. We worked together in 2006 after I had a hip replacement operation and was seriously out of shape. Coach John put together a program of exercise, supplements, and nutrition that I followed for nine months allowing me to change my weight from 170 lbs. to 138 lbs. and reduce my bodyfat from 43% to 23%.
He was always available to answer my many questions, provide correction if needed, and provide emotional support. As a coach he took my physical limitations into consideration while supporting me to move to the next level of fitness. Coach John and I were partners in me achieving my health goals.”

“I was at my hair dresser’s one day and complaining about how bad I was feeling. My blood pressure was way too high and my medication had been doubled. I was overweight and feeling horrible. I was depressed and just wanted to sleep all the time and ate junk food constantly. My hair dresser recommended that I talk with Coach John, perhaps he could help me.
Coach John came to my house and talked with me and immediately I went on a customized detoxification program. Within two weeks my blood pressure was stabilizing and medication was cut in half. Further along my detoxification program I stopped craving sugar and chocolate. I was craving good nutritious whole foods.
I would recommend Coach John to everyone. He talks with you honestly, is always professional, and you can always call him with questions. Coach John is warm, friendly, and very personable. He will help you!”

Coach John is personable and has integrity. His exercise routines are individualized and challenging within your limits. He has a wealth of health and fitness knowledge. Coach John makes himself available for questions. If you are looking to change your life for the better, Coach John will guide you along the way.

“When I was first diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, I immediately went on the prescribed ADA (American Diabetic Association) diet. We were keeping a daily food log and my numbers were not going down much, even with medication. Coach John suggested a low carb diet for me and we also read Dr. Richard Bernstein’s diabetes book. With each one reinforcing the other -I started. In only 3 days my numbers had dropped 50 points. Within a month my A1c had dropped from an initial 7.8 down to 6.3. My physician could not recommend low carb to me, but had no objections to my doing it since he does personally. Eating low carb isn’t the easiest thing in our modern fast food society, but it can be done. One of my personal favorites, BBQ, is okay if you have sauce on the side. Choices have to be made, and they can be made.
I am now off all medication, my diabetes is controlled only by diet. My last A1c was 5.7. I am counting net carbs and aim for 40 a day. We read all nutrition labels and choose accordingly. My life is a little complicated due to a recurring wheat allergy, but with a little effort, many choices are available.”

“I heard about Coach John from a counter clerk at a health food store. I randomly, first time ever, stopped in to see if they had the calcium that the doctor recommended that I start taking. I had been looking into different types of medicine because I was told by every doctor who saw me that for being obese, I was in perfect health. I didn’t feel in perfect health and while some would say I was making it up, I was always tired just at the point of passing out and I had constant IBS problems. I felt defeated and had given up on living a normal life. I had no hobbies and nothing was interesting. I had just had a terrible break up with the world’s biggest nerd and he was everything that the word nerd entails.
I was reading a couple of books about the adrenal glands when the nosy sales person started talking to me about her health problems. I mentioned that I was looking into alternative medicine and she brought over a couple of fliers and recommended some doctors. When she mentioned how expensive they were I was ready to walk out the door. She then pointed out Coach John’s flier that was covered front to back with information about the food we eat and how it affects our bodies. This grabbed my attention because one of the things that interested me in culinary school was the fact that we have been genetically altering our food but we have no idea what it is doing to our bodies on a genetic level. I thought, “What the hell, if he turns out to be a nut I’ll just hang up”. I left Coach John a message and promptly forgot about him. When he called me back, he started asking questions that no health professional ever asked. We had an hour conversation in which I dumped everything that was wrong with me physically, emotionally and anything else I could say on to him. At the end of my monolog I asked, “I bet your really not interested in working with me now, huh?” His answer is why I agreed to meet with him, “just the opposite in fact.”
I have been working with Coach John for a little under a year and I have never felt better. I quickly lost over 40 pounds of fat and built 25 pounds of new muscle. Overall, I have lost 4 dress sizes and I am working on the 5th. I have a much better out look on life and a positive attitude about myself. I have found a killer job out on the road full-time, so my results have slowed down but I am still making progress. Coach John is always there no matter what the issue is and his knowledge has helped me overcome my biggest obstacle -ME. I would recommend Coach John because he knows so much and wants to impart that knowledge to everyone and he wants them to be healthy and happy. He gives so much of himself to achieve those results. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very hard work but it is SO worth it!”

“Coach John has been helping our family members for the last few years. We met him through a friend and his knowledge is overwhelming. We have spent many hours with Coach John going through our individual medical issues and he helped us design a program to benefit our individual needs. His knowledge extended to both our medical problems as well as our physical fitness.
Coach John’s knowledge is so extensive he is even able to help you gain access to the best organic ingredients via the local markets or with internet sites who can ship the product to your door step. He allows you to help design a program that fits your lifestyle and it can be as aggressive or as slowly productive as you choose.
We have to say his advice has always been right on track. We however have not always stuck to the program because of our own daily life issues. We can testify to the fact that when we have been able to follow his program we have felt more energetic, healthy and full of life. We hope to return to the program shortly as our life issues allow.
Coach John’s ability to bring his knowledge to your level is the thing we have appreciated the most. He spent time drawing cell structures, diagramming what happens in your body and how what he is proposing relates to fixing your health issue. He also recommends books and research areas so you can extend your own knowledge if you choose.
We can’t say enough good things about Coach John being available when you need help or advice either in person or by phone. We would recommend his expertise to anyone without hesitation.”
